The club was formed in 1994 by a group of anglers in the Coosan & District area of Athlone.

Club Activities

Activities include Trout, Coarse and Pike fishing competitions with an emphasis on catch and release.

The club is actively involved in youth development with activities including fly casting tuition, fly tying, coarse fishing competitions and fly fishing competitions for rainbow trout on stocked lakes.

The club is actively involved  in Stream enhancement work on feeder streams into Lough Ree.

A number of club members are actively involved in the Lough Ree Hatchery Group. They look after the trap in the Breensford river at Ballykeeran and maintain the eggs in the hatchery as well as releasing the unfed fry back into the streams.

Coosan Anglers at Ballinlough Game fair

Coosan anglers members with some of the ITFFA Irish youth team (including the manager) and some of the top Irish fly tier's and casting instructors at the Ballinlough Game fair.

Sean Dempsey and Cillian Dowling from Loughrea ( a member of the 2010 ITFFA youth team) demonstrate how to tie flies at the game fair.
